Tamiru Tadesse’s path into coffee was unconventional. Formerly a university teacher and electrical engineer, he was drawn to coffee by its potential and frustrated by how rarely producers were rewarded for quality. After Ethiopia’s first Cup of Excellence in 2020, he and his wife, Messi, founded Alo Coffee in their home village of Alo, Bensa, to prove Sidama could stand among the world’s best.
They succeeded immediately. Tamiru’s first CoE submission won first place in 2021, launching Alo Coffee onto the global stage. Today, he continues to push Ethiopian coffee forward through innovative fermentation and drying, with this lot standing as a vibrant, superfruity expression of that vision.
